Members were asked to provide five (5) reasons as to ‘why the Invictus Games inspire you?’, with the two (2) most creative responses in line to win a trip for two (2) to the Invictus Games Sydney 2018.

The total prize includes:

  • Two (2) return economy flights to Sydney from your nearest Australian capital city on (to Sydney) 26 October 2018 and (returning) 28 October 2018.

Our Executive Team had the privilege of reviewing these in detail and selected James’ and Makailas’ responses after much deliberation.

Why the Invictus Games inspire you?

James (WA)

  1. I'm a TPI Veteran and I believe it would be an honour and a privilege to see other fellow Veterans participating in these wonderful games. Seeing other Veterans compete would give me inspiration.
  2. I want to remember my friends and colleagues who I served with but never returned home. I miss them and feel by attending the games is a way to honour their memories.
  3. I have service related PTSD and its impacted my partner and family immensely. Winning this competition would be in some way to repay my partners for her love and commitment to me.
  4. The games gives me a feeling that Veterans can achieve goals which would normally seen as been attainable. Even though we carry mental and physical scars we cannot be beaten.
  5. The games demonstrate to greater public that we have served with pride defending the values and beliefs of our countries. And though we are wounded in mind or body we are still proud and able.

Makaila (QLD)

  1. As a granddaughter on 2nd ww11 vets and a current serving officer this gives me hope and inspiration.
  2. Those who participate in the games have given their country so much it is great to see something that celebrates them.
  3. The games give our veterans and serving members something to strive for.
  4. Sport transcends so many barriers physically, mental, medical, cultural. This is an opportunity to show the best of all of us.
  5. The athletes of Invictus provide inspiration to all, to have the ability to overcome so many obstacles and represent our service and country puts life in perspective.

We want to send a big thank you to everyone who participated in our competition and helped make it a success.
