Automatic Payments

When you set up a direct debit, you are allowing a service provider, such as your private health insurer or your gym, to automatically withdraw money from your account at set times to pay your bills or make your loan repayments. 

 

You can cancel the direct debit with the service provider make sure you keep a copy of the notice you send. Please be aware that the service provider will have their own terms and conditions regarding cancelling direct debits. We can also cancel these on your behalf. Make sure you tell us what direct debit(s) you want cancelled and the date payment should cease. Please ensure you give us at least one weeks’ notice.

Once we have received your cancellation instructions, we are obliged to make sure no more payments are debited from your account.

As a general guide you must keep sufficient cleared funds in your account to cover your direct debit requests. If you do not, we can dishonour the transaction and charge dishonour fees: see our Schedule of Fees & Charges.

We can cancel your direct debit facility, in our absolute discretion, if 2 consecutive direct debit instructions are dishonoured.

 

Also known as future payments these can be set-up via Internet Banking or Mobile Banking for Pay Anyone and Funds Transfer. Select the frequency of the payment such as weekly or monthly and the amount you wish to transfer.

You must keep sufficient cleared funds in your account to cover your Periodical Payments.

Simply cancel the payment in the Manage Payments section of Internet Banking or Mobile Banking, make sure you do this at least 48 hours prior to the future payment date. We can also cancel these on your behalf, contact us to request this, please ensure you give us at least one weeks’ notice.

A recurring card payment is when you give your credit card or debit card details (e.g. card number, expiry date) to a merchant or service provider to make regular scheduled charges. An example would be a monthly subscription.  

 

There are different requirements for cancelling a payment that is linked to a credit/debit card. When cancelling these types of payments, you need to contact the merchant/service provider to stop the payment. We also recommend that you keep a copy of the letters/emails for your records.
