Comprehensive Plus​ 

Comprehensive Plus is the top-tier insurance policy CGU offers. Providing coverage for a range of events, including damage from fire, theft, weather, and collisions. ​ 

Comprehensive Plus is the top-tier insurance policy you can purchase through us. Providing coverage for a range of events, including damage from fire, theft, weather, and collisions. ​ 

Unlike Comprehensive Basics and Comprehensive policies, this policy includes extras such as a hire car after an accident and $0 excess on glass repairs. ​ 

Additionally, it provides higher value limits for certain coverages. For example, it covers up to $250 for a taxi fare from the scene of an accident or to an authorised repairer, which is higher than the limit included in the Comprehensive policy. Comprehensive Basics Car Insurance is an entry-level policy that provides essential coverage. ​ 

It protects your car from damage caused by collisions, fire, theft, and adverse weather conditions. Additionally, it covers any damage your car may cause to other people’s vehicles and property.​ As an entry-level option, this policy does not include optional extras. ​ 

If you need features like a hire car or $0 glass excess, you might want to consider Comprehensive or Comprehensive Plus policies. ​

Third Party, Fire and Theft 

Third Party Fire & Theft Insurance helps cover costs if your car is stolen, catches fire, or is damaged by an uninsured driver. It also provides coverage for damage you cause to other people's vehicles and property in an accident.  

This insurance includes all the benefits of Third Party Property Damage Insurance, with added protection for fire and theft. This summary outlines the differences between car insurance options.   • Covers for damage to your car caused by fire (up to $10,000). 
  • Covers damage to your car if an uninsured driver causes an accident (up to $5,000)

  • Covers towing to a safe place if an uninsured driver causes an accident.

Third Party Property Damage 

Third Party Property Damage Insurance covers the cost of damage you cause to other people's vehicles or property in an accident. ​ 
Additionally, if an uninsured driver damages your car, you're covered up to $5,000. ​ 

For extra protection against theft or fire, consider Third Party Fire & Theft Insurance. ​

What you need to know:​ 

1 To get a new replacement car with Comprehensive or Comprehensive Plus following an incident CGU insures, your car must weigh under 3.5 tonnes, and it must have been a new or demonstrator vehicle when you bought it, and less than 24 months old for Comprehensive, and less than 36 months for Comprehensive Plus. New vehicle replacement is not included with Comprehensive Basics. New vehicle must be reasonably available in Australia.​

How much is car insurance?​

Does CGU cover electric (EV), hybrid and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) vehicles? 
Yes – as long as they meet CGU's standard acceptance criteria. CGU generally covers standard-spec EV, hybrid and PHEV vehicles.​ 

 

What is an excess in car insurance?​ 
An excess is the amount you may contribute towards the cost of your claim. Your current Certificate of Insurance shows the amount and types of excesses that apply to your policy.​ 

 

What is a car insurance claim?​ 
A car insurance claim is a request that you lodge to your car insurance provider when you have suffered damage or loss.​ 

 

Do you offer flexible payment options?  
Yes, you can choose to pay fortnightly, monthly or quarterly at no extra cost.​ 

 

How can I make a claim?
If you need to make a claim under your insurance, simply call CGU Claims on 13 24 80 to make a paperless claim. They’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also submit a car insurance claim online here.

 

Do you guarantee repairs?  
CGU offers a lifetime guarantee on the workmanship of all authorised repairs, valid for as long as you own the car.​
