  • New replacement - CGU can replace your trailer with a new one if it's written off in its first 2 years in an incident CGU cover (your trailer must have been new or a demonstration model when you bought it).
  • Fire and flood - You’re covered if your trailer is damaged by fire, storm, flood or tsunami. 
  • Emergency repairs - CGU covers you for agreed emergency repairs you need to make after an incident it covers, so that your trailer’s safe to tow (up to $800).

  • Food spoilage - Cover for spoiled food and prescription medicine up to $500 if a power outage causes your fridge to stop working. 
  • Temporary accommodation - If your holiday caravan can't be used after a covered incident and you're more than 100kms from home, CGU pays for temporary accommodation (up to $1,000). 
  • Liability cover - CGU covers your legal liability in certain situations if someone's injured or their property's damaged by your caravan (up to $20m).2 

 

Not included: 

There are some things CGU doesn't cover: 

Off-road use - Unless your caravan is designed for it, CGU doesn't cover damage from driving off-road. 

Wear and tear - CGU doesn't cover normal wear and tear that happens as you use your caravan. 

 

Optional benefits you can add when you get a quote: 

No excess for glass damage - Add an option to avoid paying an excess when your windscreen, window glass or sunroof is the only thing damaged in a covered incident (let CGU know and CGU will arrange the repairs). 

Lay up cover - By adding lay up cover you may reduce your premium (and the cover CGU provides) for an agreed time while you're not using your caravan. 

Motor burnout - Add cover for electric motor burnout in things like fridges and air conditioning units, including parts and labour.3  

 

What you need to know: 

1 CGU may not cover you for some severe weather events during an embargo period (which is usually when CGU knows a severe weather event is about to occur).  

2 CGU covers your legal liability for death or bodily injury to someone else, or loss or damage to someone else's property for an incident we cover. 

3 CGU can cover motors for up to 15 years after they were made.

Is my caravan covered if I have an accident whilst towing it on the road? 
Yes, your caravan is covered if it’s involved in an accident on the road. 

 
If my caravan is damaged or stolen while we’re on holiday, am I covered for alternative accommodation costs? 

If your holiday caravan can't be used after a covered incident and you're more than 100kms from home, CGU pays for temporary accommodation (up to $1,000). 

 

Are the things inside my caravan covered? 

Caravan Insurance covers items that are permanently kept inside your caravan, like furniture, bedding and appliances. To cover items you take outside your caravan (like jewellery, phones and laptops), check out Home Contents Insurance. 

 

Can I use my caravan during the lay up period? 

CGU will cover your touring caravan during the lay up period if you've told CGU and CGU agrees to the use. You'll also need to pay any extra premium that applies.

  • Loss of rent during repairs​ If your building or contents are covered and your rental property is unliveable after a covered event, CGU will pay up to 12 months of lost rent.​1 
  • Furniture & furnishings​ Cover for loss or damage to furniture, furnishings and carpet in your property.2 
  • Theft & vandalism​ Cover for stolen items and damage to or from theft and vandalism, including stolen keys.3​

What you need to know: 

1 CGU cover either the weekly rent listed on your Certificate of Insurance, or the weekly rent in your rental agreement, whichever is less. A valid rental agreement is required.  

2 Under a Landlord ‘Contents’ policy, your furniture and furnishings are covered up to the contents insured amount. Under a Landlord ‘Building’ policy, if your property isn’t under a strata or similar scheme your furniture and furnishings are covered to up to 10% of the buildings insured amount.  

3 If theft or vandalism by tenant, CGU will deduct from your claim four times the weekly rent amount shown on your rental agreement, in addition to the standard excess. A valid rental agreement is required. No excess is payable for a claim made only under the ‘Replacement of keys and locks’ additional benefit.  

4 CGU don’t cover actions of the sea, such as tides and waves.  

5 CGU doesn’t cover damage caused by water leaking or escaping from a shower recess or shower base. CGU doesn't cover loss from erosion or other earth movements. CGU doesn't cover the costs to repair or replace the item that the liquid leaked or escaped from.

Am I covered if my tenant damages my property or contents?    
Yes, you’re covered if your tenant or their guest vandalises your property or intentionally causes loss or damage. You and your tenant must have a valid rental agreement. Your policy doesn't cover damage resulting from wear and tear. For more information, please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement.

 

Can I insure for more than your online building and contents calculator says?  
Yes, you can. The calculation provided is just a guide. It's your responsibility to ensure your home is insured for its full replacement value. However, if you insure your home or contents for more than the cost to repair, replace, or rebuild, CGU will only pay the actual cost of repairing, replacing, or rebuilding.  

 

Can I choose my own repairer for my home repairs?
Yes, you can choose who repairs your home. However, if you decide not to use one of CGU’s partner repairers, they won't be able to guarantee the workmanship or repairs that are completed, nor assist in managing the repairer regarding timeframes or quality. CGU will also only pay you the fair and reasonable amount that the repairs should cost.

How much is car insurance?​ 
Car insurance premiums vary because we all have different circumstances and needs. For all the factors CGU consider, take a look at the Premium, Excess and Discounts Guide.​   

 

Does CGU cover electric (EV), hybrid and plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) vehicles? 
Yes – as long as they meet CGU's standard acceptance criteria. CGU generally covers standard-spec EV, hybrid and PHEV vehicles.​ 

 

What is an excess in car insurance?​ 
An excess is the amount you may contribute towards the cost of your claim. Your current Certificate of Insurance shows the amount and types of excesses that apply to your policy.​ 

 

What is a car insurance claim?​ 
A car insurance claim is a request that you lodge to your car insurance provider when you have suffered damage or loss.​ 

 

Do you offer flexible payment options?  
Yes, you can choose to pay fortnightly, monthly or quarterly at no extra cost.​ 

 

How can I make a claim?
If you need to make a claim under your insurance, simply call CGU Claims on 13 24 80 to make a paperless claim. They’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also submit a car insurance claim online here.

 

Do you guarantee repairs?

Building Insurance  

Cover your home with Building Insurance.  

If your home is damaged or destroyed by a covered incident, CGU will cover the cost to repair or rebuild it, up to the sum insured.  
Additionally, if you can't live in your home due to damage from a covered incident, CGU help cover the costs of temporary accommodation for up to a year.

Contents Insurance 

Get cover for items in your home, even if you accidentally leave a window or door unlocked.  

Additionally, you can add a portable contents option to cover items like laptops or jewellery that might get lost or stolen when you're out and about.  

For premium contents cover, choose Contents Plus when you're getting a quote.

What you need to know: 

1 CGU don’t cover actions of the sea, such as tides and waves.  

2 If you have Contents Insurance, and you're renting the home (a tenant), CGU pays the reasonable extra rent costs for temporary accommodation. If you own and live in your home (and it's part of a strata or similar scheme),CGU cover the reasonable costs of temporary accommodation. If you have Building Insurance with CGU Insurance, and you own and live in your home, CGU covers the costs for temporary accommodation that CGU agrees are reasonable and appropriate for you. Additional limits, exclusions and conditions apply. 

3 Cover applies if the incident happens at your home (under Building insurance), and away from your home but still in Australia (under Contents insurance).  

4 CGU doesn't cover fishing equipment, sporting equipment, musical instruments or firearms while they're in use.   

5 CGU cover motors for up to 15 years after they were made, provided they are not covered by a warranty or used in your business.   

6 Portable items are covered for loss, theft and accidental damage. Cover is up to $10,000 for each item unless you list it separately for more. There are other limits for items taken outside Australia or New Zealand, check the PDS. CGU don’t cover scratches and dents or items being cleaned or repaired. CGU doesn’t cover fishing equipment, sporting equipment, drones, musical instruments or firearms while they’re in use. CGU doesn’t cover bicycles while they’re being used in a competitive race or time trial.

7 If you have Building Insurance with CGU Insurance, and you own and live in your home, CGU covers the costs for temporary accommodation that CGU agrees are reasonable and appropriate for you. Additional limits, exclusions and conditions apply.

Can I insure for more than your online building and contents calculator says?  
Yes, you can. The calculation provided is just a guide. It's your responsibility to ensure your home is insured for its full replacement value. However, if you insure your home or contents for more than the cost to repair, replace, or rebuild, CGU will only pay the actual cost of repairing, replacing, or rebuilding.  

 

What is Accidental Damage Cover in my Home Insurance policy?  
Accidental damage cover protects you when unexpected mishaps occur around your home. For instance, it would cover you if your child accidentally knocked over the TV and broke the screen, or if you accidentally put your foot through the ceiling while in the roof. Whether your building, contents, or both are covered depends on your policy. Accidental damage cover can be added as an optional benefit to your Building Standard policy. If you upgrade to Building Plus, it’s automatically included. 

 

Can I choose my own repairer for my home repairs?
Yes, you can choose who repairs your home. However, if you decide not to use one of CGU’s partner repairers, they won't be able to guarantee the workmanship or repairs that are completed, nor assist in managing the repairer regarding timeframes or quality. CGU will also only pay you the fair and reasonable amount that the repairs should cost. 

 

What is the difference between General, Valuable, and Portable Contents. 
General Contents: These are items you keep in and around your home that aren't permanently attached to the structure, like furniture.

Valuable Contents: These are part of your general contents but have a coverage limit of $2,500 in total for all items in the following categories: Works of art – Collections  -Jewellery and watches. You can insure items in these categories for higher amounts by opting for Valuable contents as an additional benefit.

Portable Contents: These are items that you or your family can take outside of your home. Coverage for these items is only available if you choose Portable contents as an optional benefit. 

 

I'm placing some contents items in storage, how do I ensure that my items are covered?
General contents held in storage can be covered under Home Insurance policy if you inform CGU before moving your items into storage and if CGU's acceptance criteria are met. Refer to the Product Disclosure Statement for information on items not covered while in storage. Please note that Valuable Contents are not covered while in storage.
